FREE THINKING: EXPLORE THE REALMS OF KNOWLEDGE
Delve into the depths of Science, Theology, Philosophy & Politics
The tapestry of human understanding, the threads of science, theology, philosophy, and politics weave together to form a complex and multifaceted narrative of our existence and aspirations. Science, with its empirical methods and relentless curiosity, seeks to unravel the mysteries of the natural world, illuminating the underlying laws and mechanisms governing the cosmos. Theology, rooted in faith and spirituality, explores the realms beyond the tangible, probing the depths of meaning, purpose, and the divine. Philosophy, the eternal quest for wisdom and truth, transcends disciplinary boundaries to grapple with the fundamental questions of existence, consciousness, ethics, and the nature of reality. Politics, the arena of power and governance, shapes the social contracts and institutions that govern human societies, reflecting and influencing our values, aspirations, and collective destinies. While each discipline may appear distinct in its focus and methodologies, they are interconnected in profound ways, engaging in a dynamic dialogue that enriches our understanding of the universe and our place within it. As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, it is through the integration of science, theology, philosophy, and politics that we seek not only knowledge, but also wisdom, compassion, and the realization of a more just and enlightened society.
Who am I?
Julian, or as he likes to be known Jules, has had a varied life. His belief in Jesus Christ has always been paramount to him and has been at the centre of all he has done.
For twenty-three years he worked in the Civil Service and became involved in the trade union movement where he held a variety of positions.
Later during this period, he joined the Labour Party and worked to help his party win an election, which also saw him becoming a local City Councillor. For the next seven years, he served on various committees and Chaired some of them.
After this time, he gained a degree in Theology & Philosophy and then went to Theological College and trained to be a priest. Although he finished his training, unfortunately, was not ordained and subsequently became a teacher. This too was short-lived, and he retired to become a carer for his late mother.
For eighteen years after returning from Theological College, he became involved with the Church of England as a member of the Laity. Over this period, he held numerous positions and had a variety of roles both in the parish and throughout the Diocese.
He now embarks upon another chapter of his life as he is about to start his master’s in philosophy with the Open University. He has said, ‘Life is a series of chapters, I have read the first but have still many others before the conclusion’.
